KOREAN MOVIES: Free Concert Performed to Promote the Movie "26 Years"

On November 16, 2012, there was a free concert performed in the heart of Seoul Plaza to promote the 2012 South Korean action revenge film "26 Years."  The movie is based on Kangfull's 2006 comic by the same title which is also based on the historical event that happened in 1980, that is, the Gwangju Democratization Movement, aka, Gwangju Pro-democracy Protest or Gwangju Massacre. (Click to learn more about the event.)  The following clip is a cast interview video featuring Jin Goo, Han Hyejin, Bae Subin, Im Seulong, Lee Kyung-young, Jang Gwang, Jo Deokjae, and Kangfull.

And the video clip you are going to watch next features the cast and director interviews at the movie premiere (Nov. 22, 2012):

This movie will open less than two days and I hope it will be a mega hit movie of all time. Now, the last clip for you to watch is the 5-minute highlights from the movie:

  1. I'm sorry, but I must point out a couple of errors. The film is actually called "29 Years" and the Gwangjiu Massacre happened in 1980.

  2. The Cynic, you're right. There was a typo: it should be 1980, not 2000 (Gosh! What was I thinking?) But the movie is called 26 years (but was first titled 29 Years when they were aiming to release it in 2009. Thanks for your correction! :)

  3. Onsemiro - awesome work again, thanks. I don't speak a word of Korean so your work is just invaluable. Your clips are usually posted in the 26 Years movie thread on Soompi - hope you don't mind that I didn't ask for your permission first.

The VIP premiere of the movie was held in Seoul some hours ago & a good friend who watched it is so excited about it, I wonder if she's still awake thinking about it :) Since the comments are moderated, please feel free to amend mine (I am a big fan of Bae Soo Bin and also admire Han Hye Jin, and like Jin Goo since BSB is his hyung :)).

Have you seen this awesome 5-min clip - if so, I do hope very much that you plan to do English subtitles for it .. we will be eternally indebted to you.

    Kind regards

  4. cynkdf, I don't mind you posting my videos there as long as you credit me. :) But I don't think I've seen the video clip you just mentioned.

There's another clip that can be seen on Naver but I can't get it to load now .. Many thanks

  6. Wow, thanks for the link, cynkdf! I loved watching it!

  7. The subbed video featuring the highlights from the movie was just added.

  8. Onsemiro, you are an absolute star, thank you. Having Eng subs makes the highlight clip even more enjoyable (I've just posted it in the Soompi thread). I've seen a couple more vids that certainly would be even more interesting if subbed but you've already done so much so .. only if you say go ahead .. eg Ystar did an interview with Jang Gwang ... amd a Naver clip with a bit more footage plus what was seen in the 5-min highlights.

    With grateful thanks

  9. cynkdf, just watched Jang Gwang's interview with Ystar, but there's nothing particularly interesting in that - trust me, it's not because I don't want to sub it or am tired of subbing the vids. I personally prefer his interview at the Seoul Plaza concert @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9J8TJW7esO0

  10. Hi Onsemiro, I really appreciate your quick response which is really what I wish to read as I didn't know what Jang Gwang was talking about. I love that vid whose link you provided - my only quibble is that the video maker didn't include a question put to Bae Soo Bin!

The Korean BSB fan I am in contact with told me this rather funny tidbit about Jang Gwang. Apparently Bae Soo Bin was afraid of Jang at first but after working with him on the movie, he had warmed to him so much so that he would give Jang a hug whenever they meet, and Jang said that he likes being hugged by such a handsome man. Hey anyone who calls BSB handsome is my friend - irrespective of gender :)

Anyway, I just want to let you know that I've re- posted your great subbed video (with Eng subs) elsewhere, crediting you of course :) I could appreciate why Im Seul Ong gave Jin Goo a rather wry? look after the latter said "You look familiar".. Hopefully the rest of the movie is of the same quality as the clip, and if so I am confident that the brave producers and backers such as Lee Seung Hwan have a well-deserved hit on their hands.

Apologies for such a long post - 26 Years Fighting!

    Kind regards

  11. Jang Gwang is a veteran voice actor and recently played very evil, villainous twin brothers in the 2011 South Korean movie "The Crucible." Maybe that's why BSB was scared of him at first. :)

  12. Onsemiro,
Thank you Thank you Thank you! Will be using your subbed clips to share and promote 26 Years to the English speaking world!
Hoping it will do very well commercially so that it has a higher chance of being distributed abroad. Really looking forward to watching it with English subs!!
Blessings to you and thanks again for all you've done thus far! Amazing job!!

  13. Wendy, the good news is, 26 Years has moved into first place in online advance ticket sales. Yay!!

  14. Hi not sure if the first posting went through, apologies if it has gone through. LOL at your answer about why BSB might be afraid of Jang Gwang initially. BTW I am the idiotic anonymous who related the story about BSB being afraid of Jang Gwang at first :)
Maybe I am being paranoid but re the first commenter here, “The Cynic” I think anyone who is closely following the movie would have known the title is “26 Years”, not “29 Years”
Once again (as this bears repeating over & over again) thank you for the wonderful English subs. However, I am curious as to why the 5-min Highlights clip can't be found in your dearkorea channel.

We (meaning all the supporters of the movie, in this case Wendyfsp who has commented here -she's a nun and a big fan of Han Hye Jin, and some of BSB's most fervent fans in Japan and Korea - are monitoring the first and second day box office results. Good first day but let’s see what the weekend will bring – I was told the number of screens has been increased, which is so good to hear.

Thank for including the original Lee Seung Hwan Mv "Flower" starring a v young Park Shin Hye - now that is one video which deserves to go viral.

  15. Thank you for the post! Here goes another movie to add to my wish list.
I really wish Korean movies were more accessible in small town Ohio where I live. I usually look out for them when I visit in "bigger" cities :)

  16. cynkdf, well, maybe because I didn't include "5-min" in the title? Anyways, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgL2avC6SJk I think this film will be easily placed number one at the weekend box office too! :) BYW, have I told you BSB looks exactly like my ex boyfriend? (I don't want my husband to read this though 'cause he's not as handsome as BSB. (lol))

Oh, here's one more thing: I'm subbing the 2003 KBS documentary on Gwangju Pro-democracy Protest, "A Blue-eyed Witness," to help S. Korean younger generations as well as non-Koreans understand the movie better.

Elom, have you ever tried Netflix or Hulu? They are now providing more and more newly-released Korean movies and dramas with English subtitles.

  17. Hi Onsemiro, hope all is well with you, and that you are enjoying the news that 26 days is doing well at the Box Office. Let's hope the momentum is maintained.

There are more videos up on Youtube about stage greetings, and Arirang TV's "ShowBiz Korea" weekend edition included an excellent feature about "26 Years" .

Still tickled pink at the fact that your ex-BF resembles BSB :)

All the best and thanks again for all you have done

  18. Actually, he was a carbon copy of BSB. giggles.

  19. Your ex bf was a BSB look-alike? Cool! Shows you have good taste! :- As Cyn said there are more video clips on youtube - in case you're done with the documentary, here are the links to these short clips which I believe were shown during the concert -

Sorry to bother you so much with the subbing but you are our "saviour" when it comes to these 26Years related clips.
    Thanks and God bless!!!!

  20. It was a bad breakup though. Anyways, I was looking for the first video. Thanks! :)

  21. Hi Onsemiro, hope it's OK to add a few more links to videos that we'd appreciate your subbing - but absolutely no pressure (says she reluctantly), it's entirely up to you. I love these two clips because we see BSB laughing in them:

This station is prob the only station that covers news about BSB that stations like the Big 3 don't - eg they had a clip about BSB's graduation from university in Feb 2012 (we BSB fans are so proud of him but I personally was disappointed and sad to find that there was so little mention about his graduating at the relatively late age of 35/36))

    Many thanks in advance
